How to plan sleeve boxes
What a sleeve contributes to the package
A sleeve is an outer wrap that slides over a tray, carton or another agreed inner pack. It provides a branding surface and a layered opening, but does not automatically contain or protect the product by itself.
Design the sleeve and inner together
Measure the finished inner pack after wraps, coatings and labels are applied. Plan enough clearance to slide without scuffing, while avoiding a loose sleeve that falls away during handling.
Control the reveal
Choose the opening direction and check which panel is seen first. A set may need an inner tray or insert to retain components when the sleeve is removed; sleeve friction is not product retention.
Review friction and assembly
Use an appropriate physical reference to assess slide resistance, stop points, edge wear and alignment. Confirm whether the sleeve is supplied flat or assembled and whether artwork crosses a seam.
